Celebrating the Orthodox New Year at the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia
On January 14th, me and some of my UCL SSEES students had the pleasure of attending a wonderful reception at the Embassy of the Republic of North Macedonia to celebrate the Orthodox New Year / Old New Year / Стара Нова година. We’re so grateful to Ambassador Katerina Stavreska and her team for the kind invitation, it was a truly special evening.
One of the highlights was talking with my students about Macedonian and Balkan cuisine and wine. Their enthusiasm and curiosity brought such warmth to the evening. The other when one of my students brought me a translation of the Macedonian novel Pirej. Such a thoughtful surprise, and a perfect way to connect through literature.
Thank you again for hosting us and for the incredible hospitality. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to ring in 2025!
